SPEAKERS

Melissa Harris-Perry

Melissa Harris-Perry is the Maya Angelou Presidential Chair at Wake Forest University. There she is the Executive Director of the Pro Humanitate Institute and founding director of the Anna Julia Cooper Center. Melissa is Editor-at-Large at ELLE.com. She hosted the award winning television show “Melissa Harris-Perry” from 2012-2016 on weekend mornings on MSNBC. She is the author of the award-winning Barbershops, Bibles, and BET: Everyday Talk and Black Political Thought, and Sister Citizen: Shame, Stereotypes, and Black Women in America. Harris-Perry received her B.A. degree in English from Wake Forest University and her Ph.D. degree in political science from Duke University. She also studied theology at Union Theological Seminary in New York. Harris-Perry previously served on the faculty of the University of Chicago, Princeton University, and Tulane University.

      Jessica Adams

      Jessica Adams is the Founder and Director of the St. Louis Area Diaper Bank. Having experienced diaper need as a newly divorced, single mom in grad school, when Jess heard about the huge number of moms across the country who don’t have enough diapers she was moved to start a Diaper Bank in St. Louis.           Kate Aravich

          After raising her daughter as an ‘almost’ stay-at-home mom, Kate worked for nine years as the part-time development director at her daughter’s Catholic school, and served on the boards of Catholic Charities of Idaho, Bishop Kelly High School and the Idaho Catholic Foundation. (more…)

              Cathy Battle

              Cathy is a Respiratory therapist at Forbes Regional Hospital, Allegheny Health Network, in Pttsburgh, Pennsylvania. Cathy worked in the Neonatal ICU for 12 years in Ohio before moving to Pittsburgh. (more…)

                  Chris Blake

                  Chris Blake, longtime NDBN board member and former CEO of Kids in Distressed Situations, has recently joined the staff of NDBN. He brings 30 years of non-profit leadership and fundraising experience with a focus on corporate donations of funds and products. He is married with two daughters, a marathoner and triathlete.

                      Nicole Bodde

                      Nicole is Senior Manager of Labor & Expense Business Solutions at The Kroger Co., primarily focusing on improving labor and cost efficiencies in retail operations. (more…)

                          Kate is the Executive Director of the Diaper Bank of Minnesota, a program that provides diapers to 20 partner organizations in 7 counties in the Twin Cities area of Minneapolis and St. Paul.                               Jill Bright

                              Jill is the Founder and Director of the Diaper Bank of the Ozarks. Until her retirement in 2002 she worked as a geriatric/ psychiatric nurse, focusing on Alzheimer’s Disease. (more…)

She has over 20 years experience working in the non-profit and state government industry. Motivated by a passion to help others Ms. Lyles has dedicated her career to advocacy and public service. In her spare time she enjoys traveling, reading and spending time with her daughter.

                                                                                      Kelley E. C. Massengale, PhD, MPH, is the Director of Research & Evaluation at the Diaper Bank of North Carolina.                                                                                         Deanna Martin

                                                                                        Deanna is a member of the Board of Directors for The Rebecca Foundation’s Cloth Diaper Closet, a national cloth diaper bank, and runs the Philadelphia chapter. Previously from CT, her experience with cloth diapers began in 2014 after the birth of her son. She found it intimidating at first and learned all she could to make it work for her family. Shortly after, she began teaching classes to help other parents who wanted to save money with cloth diapers but were unsure of where to start. She began volunteering with TRF in 2015, expanding their reach into the New Haven area. After relocating to Philadelphia in late 2016, she continued her work with TRF and assists the foundation with advocacy projects in order to improve access to cloth diapers and reduce diaper need. Deanna has a Master of Public Health degree from Southern CT State University and has previously worked for Yale University and Planned Parenthood of Southern New England. Currently, she is a work-at-home mom with a rambunctious 3-year-old who loves to help sort through donated diapers and get them to families in need.
