The National Diaper Bank Network has issued the following statement from CEO Joanne Goldblum, in response to today’s decision by Supreme Court of the United States to allow the Trump administration’s “public charge” rule to be implemented nationwide. “The National Diaper Bank Network is very disappointed with today’s Supreme Court decision to allow the Administration’s public charge rule to take effect nationwide. As we have stated previously, forcing families to choose between their American dream or health care, food, housing, and other basic necessities, endangers the well-being of legal immigrants and their children, many of whom are US citizens.”

With nearly half the infants and toddlers in the US living in poor and low-wage families—who may struggle to access material basic necessities—federal, state and municipal support is essential to augment nonprofit efforts to combat diaper need, according to a study in the American Journal of Public Health.

The National Diaper Bank Network has issued the following statement in response to announced changes in the “public charge” rule impacting immigrants to the U.S. “By redefining the ‘public charge’ rule, the current administration continues its attack on programs that support law-abiding families and their ability to access the basic necessities needed to live, thrive and contribute in the US. Forcing families to choose between their American dream or health care, food, and housing, endangers the well-being of legal immigrants and their children, many of whom are US citizens.”

The National Diaper Bank Network (NDBN) has named 28 community-based diaper bank programs in 20 U.S. states as recipients of the 2019 Funds for Change grants, the only national, competitive grant program dedicated solely to supporting nonprofit organizations that distribute donated diapers to families struggling with diaper need.

A proposal to eliminate the California state sales tax on diapers and feminine hygiene products, announced today by Gov. Gavin Newsom, has received the endorsement of the National Diaper Bank Network and the Alliance for Period Supplies. The organizations distribute donated diapers and period products, respectively, to community-based programs serving individuals and families who struggle to access basic necessities.
